Bowmore, the "Queen of Islay," was founded in 1779. Located in the heart of the island of Islay off the west coast of Scotland, the Bowmore distillery is well known for its peat and malting processes, which are influenced by the sea breeze. Furthermore, its first warehouse faces the sea directly, at sea level.
This Bowmore Tempest is the memorable Batch No. 1 released in 2009.
Made from 100% raw spirit that has been aged for over 10 years in first-fill bourbon barrels, "Tempest" is a word meaning storm or rainstorm, and it not only expresses the unique climate and geography of Islay, but also symbolizes the powerful flavor of this product.
Working backwards, we can predict that the main batch is made up of 1999 distillates, and the characteristic fruity aroma of citrus fruits is also true of subsequent batches. However, the 1999 distillate was often released by bottlers in the late 1990s, when it was known for its particularly impressive fruity aroma, and this first batch is the only one in the series that gives a glimpse of the 1990s distillation, making it likely to be the most popular batch in the series.
