(The following is from the importer materials)
A deep, well-balanced flavor with fruit flavors such as berries and cherries, black pepper, minerals, and gentle tannins. From a barrel that Tokuoka won at an auction. In 1443, the Hospices de Beaune, a medical and advocacy institution, was founded by Chancellor Nicolas Rolland. It operates by selling donated wine from vineyards at an auction held on the third Sunday of November every year. Currently, the donated fields are over 60ha, making it one of the largest domaines in Burgundy. All profits from the annual wine auction go towards modernizing medical equipment, improving facilities and preserving our heritage. Fruit flavors such as berries and cherries, black pepper, minerals, and gentle tannins are all well-balanced.

HOSPICES DE BEAUNE

Hospices de Beaune is known for its wine charity auctions that began in 1859, but it was originally a charity hospital located in Beaune, the central city of Burgundy.

Although its function as a hospital has now been transferred to another facility, this hospital, founded in 1443, provided medical services to the disadvantaged and poor from the Middle Ages until the mid-20th century. During that time, vineyards were donated by neighboring aristocrats, and the sales of wine produced from these fields supported the operation of Hospices de Beaune.

The Hospices de Beaune auction is held on the third Sunday of November every year, and the winning bid is said to have a large impact on the overall transaction price of Burgundy wine that year. Another feature is that wine is bought and sold in barrels, unlike regular bottle sales. The barrels won will be managed from barrel aging to bottling by a negociant entrusted by the winning bidder.
