Jacques Frederic Mugnier
A master of Chambolle-Musigny who vividly depicts the blessings of nature.
Jacques Frédéric Musigny is known as a master at bringing out the delicate and gorgeous Chambord Musigny style. It is on par with the two major domaines that represent Chambolle Musigny, such as Comte Georges de Voguer and Georges Roumier, and is a maker that is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain year after year.
The 5th generation head of the domaine has a unique background and has led the domaine to dramatic growth.
The domaine has a long history, having been established in 1863. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Munier family, known as Dijon's liqueur makers, acquired nearly 20 hectares of vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges. However, affected by the economic depression of the 1930s and World War II, the company sold its liqueur division in 1950. They are forced to lease most of their vineyards to négociants from Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Then, in 1978, the lease contract for Chambolle Musigny ended, and six years later, the head of the family, Frédéric Musigny, took over the domaine and participated in winemaking. The return of the Clos de la Marechal vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 2004 also served as a tailwind, and the winery achieved dramatic growth.
When talking about the fifth generation head of the family, Frédéric Meunier, it is essential to mention his unique career history. He worked as a petroleum engineer and also served as a pilot. Although he had never been directly involved in winemaking before, he took over the domaine in 1984, wanting to do a completely different job in his life, and has led it to its current development.
