The name of the cuvée comes from "Arteni," a reference to the pebble walls that once surrounded the orchards of the Langhe region, and "Brassica," a small yellow flower that blooms in the fields in spring.

The grapes are harvested from approximately 3.5 hectares of vineyards in Barbaresco and Serralunga, facing west, northwest, and east. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature controlled between 16 and 18°C for approximately four weeks, followed by six months of ageing in barriques, during which time malolactic fermentation also takes place.

The glass emanates a wonderful aroma of fresh, juicy lime, white flowers, and mint. The mouthfeel is vibrant with fresh fruit, creating a bright style. The wine is also characterized by an excellent balance of all elements, including crisp acidity and fruit flavors. The finish offers complex nuances of peach and white pepper, as well as a multi-layered minerality. This is a wonderful wine that embodies Gaja's house style.

Emperor Gaya reigns as the top of the Italian wine world

The winery's name, "Ca' Markanda," means "house of hopeless bargaining" in the Piedmontese dialect. The owner, Mr. Angelo Gaia, tried to negotiate with the owner many times in order to acquire the land, but all attempts were unsuccessful. After 18 rounds of negotiations, they finally received this long-awaited land. During the negotiations, Mr. Angelo Gaia said that his wife often asked him, ``Are you going into Ca Markanda (hopeless negotiation) again?'', so he named the winery ``Ca Markanda.''
