Richard, who silently works in the fields, is a true vigneron who is ``born in the fields and dies in the fields.'' No herbicides or insecticides are used in the cultivation of Rutte Raisonné. His vineyards are so perfect that winemakers in the village describe them as ``not vineyards, but gardens.'' Vinification takes place in an old cellar in the heart of the village of Vosne-Romanée. After harvest, maceration is performed and alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. All wines are aged for long periods in barriques. His wines, created through meticulous field work and traditional winemaking, directly convey the quality of the vineyard.
